How To Rank In Google Using Twitter

Twitter and You: Part 4!

This seems to be the most asked question we get in the web design business…

Ok so now you have quality tweets on Twitter that are updating your Facebook simultaneously. Awesome!
Now what does this mean for you?

Google has announced that it will be placing more emphasis on Facebook pages and posts for businesses. Yep, that means the more you update your Facebook (like your Twitter) to promote your website, the more likely your website will rank higher in Google.

Google has also started using “real-time tweets” in their search results.

For example, let’s search for a common phrase people look for “getting people to your website”. Below is a screen shot of Google’s Realtime results that show my introduction article on getting people to your website!

As you can see, within a short time I ranked #1 in Google Realtime for this search term.

The key to this is very simple:

  1. My website (the one you’re on right now) is constantly updating my twitter page.
  2. My Twitter page is updating my Facebook page.
  3. My Facebook friends and my Twitter followers are passing my article to each other.
  4. Google is searching the internet for results to search queries.

Google just found that post and there you are!

In conclusion

What started off as a way for people to post random “text messages” has turned into one of the most powerful advertising strategies on the internet! You can even find major companies, like Target (@target), advertising their Twitter and Facebook pages rather than their own websites.

When used properly, Twitter and Facebook can greatly increase the traffic and search results leading to your website.

I hope this little series of articles has helped shed some light on the power of social media and how it can help you.
